Protecting Our Community

Law Enforcement has expanded greatly from the time the first officer was hired around 1923. Ramseur’s first Chief of Police, L.A. Kelly was hired in 1935 when the department was housed at 1537 Main Street. From the Main Street location, the Department relocated in 1978 to offices in the new Municipal Building.

After acquiring the former bank building at the corner of Main and Liberty Streets, the Town completed Renovations and the Department once again relocated in 2003 to 741 Liberty Street upstairs. In August of 2019 the Department once again moved to its present location in the Old PNC Bank Building located at 1507 Main Street after the town purchased the building from PNC Bank.

In November 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Ramseur entered into a contract to provide law enforcement services for the Town of Ramseur. The Randolph County Board of Commissioners approved the six positions requested. All expenses for the positions will be fully reimbursed by the Town. On November 16, 2024, the assigned Sergeant took the first call. On February 18, 2025, an open house and ribbon cutting took place at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Ramseur Substation located at 1507 Main St.
