The Zoning Ordinance

The Zoning Ordinance for the Town of Ramseur was initially adopted by the Board of Commissioners in 1955. Because zoning is a work in progress and is subject to regular changes in legislation, the Zoning Ordinance has incurred many additions and changes since.

The purpose for zoning in the Town is to promote both the orderly development of land and the public health, safety, and general welfare within Ramseur’s corporate limits. The Zoning Ordinance also regulates locations and use of structures and land for trade, industry, residences, and purposes other than farming.

Ramseur’s Planning Board meets at the Ramseur Municipal Building on every fourth Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

The five members of the Planning Board are appointed by the Board of Commissioners and serve terms of four years in length. The members are charged with duties such as assisting in zoning enforcement, reviewing plans to ensure compliance with the Zoning Ordinance, recommending appropriate amendments to the Ordinance, and making recommendations to the Board of Commissioners with regard to zoning decisions. Requests concerning zoning should be brought to the Municipal Building during regular business hours.

Matters which require review by the Planning Board should be brought to the Zoning Administrator, at least ten business days prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Board.
